Connecting your MicroWriter AgendA to a PC

Microwriter Agenda

PClink and Windows 95

Unfortunately the original Microwriter programme PClink was written before Windows 95 was born. It was a Microwriter product and has never been updated since 1990.

MS DOS

It is possible to run the PClink software if you exit Windows 95 completely (SHUT DOWN but first select " RESTARTING IN MS DOS MODE"). You will now need to move to the PClink directory using the DOS commands. (CD\PCLINK ENTER etc.) To start PC link type "AG" ENTER. (This should run PClink).

Windows 95

A better solution is to use Windows 95 Hyper Terminal. This can be found in the program group accessories. The program comes bundled with Windows 95. To use this programme we will use 1200 Baud which is the default Baud rate for the AgendA. At a later date a faster access can be setup but this needs changes to both Hyper Terminal and the AgendA Baud rates.

Switch off the AgendA, plug in the serial lead to both the AgendA and your computer. Note to which port you plugging your AgendA into, probably COM1 or COM2. Now go to the Windows START button, then programs, then accessories and then Hyper Terminal. Click on Hyper Terminal. If you can't find it try using the FIND facility of Windows 95. Double click on the icon "hypertrm.exe". In the name box type AgendA. Choose an icon. Click OK. On the next screen in the box marked "Connect using" select COM1 or COM2. Click OK. On the next screen select 1200 bits per second, and accept the default settings for the other boxes (8, none, 1, hardware) Click OK. Save settings as directed by on-screen information as you exit. You now get an icon marked AgendA. Double click on this. Now open the "z" drawer on your AgendA and check that the print settings file (the one starting p SPACE) has the command qBAUD=1200p or no Baud rate command (the default is 1200).

Switch on the AgendA and try sending a text using the print facility (Press 6 at the start menu). If you are using the AgendA to receive information from the PC edit the start-up settings file, if one exists to include qBAUD=1200p (see handbook). If there is no start-up settings file do not create one unless you are changing the Baud rate to anything other than 1200. (To receive you first open a file in the "y" drawer, see manual then send the data.)

Using Hyper Terminal

This is very straightforward you can receive the data as if entered into a simple word processor. The text can be save to a file selected and copied to another Windows application or cut and copied to another Windows application. To send data enter text on the Hyper Terminal screen or pace data from another application of the screen and select (edit) paste to host. Technical Help

I do try to assist AgendA users, but please try to understand, this is NOT our main business and is NOT funded. If you have to phone for technical help it will help us if you could be brief, and call between 2pm and 6pm on Tuesdays to Fridays.
